I would suggest giving that one a shot. I installed it yesterday on my 740 and everything went flawlessly. There was an update for the video driver, but it was installed following setup and I've had exactly zero problems with the RC. If you're using the RC, have you had any other problems with the PC in general? I installed 42 of these machines and I've had to replace memory in 5 of them. They tended to crash and reboot sporadically when they had faulty memory. There were times a machine would be fine for days and then start choking. You could always download a live Linux CD and run memtest+ (the Ubuntu desktop CD would do the trick for you). I found that this tool was better at detecting memory problems than the Dell tools. The installer will reboot at least once after the first time you see the black screen. I ran into the same type of problem and just needed to be a little more patient.
